CITY ARE FAVOURITES

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that the emphatic win for City against FC Porto in the second leg of the first knock out round of the UEFA Europa League should act as a fair warning to all the other teams left in the competition and believes that it was statement enough that The Citizens are in the UEFA Europa League to win it.

Manchester City thrashed the Portuguese giants and current holders of the UEFA Europa League, FC Porto 4-0 at home at the Etihad Stadium with goals from Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, David Silva and new Chilean signing David Pizzaro to take their aggregate result to 6-1.

City is in line to face the winner of the match between Sporting Lisbon and Legia Warsaw in the last 16 round of matches and Kompany is confident that with the form they are in at the moment, they can easily see off any other team that comes in their path in their quest for a final appearance at Bucharest. Vincent Kompany also believes that the return of the players from the African Cup of Nations such as Kolo and Yaya Toure will prove to be a catalyst in the title race against bitter rivals Manchester United, both in Europe and in the English Premier League as well.

Speaking to reporters after the emphatic win against FC Porto, Kompany, however, said that the team cannot be pleased and complacent about their display because there is still a long way to go but also added that they are the favorites to add the first European crown to their trophy cabinet.

But Vincent Kompany did mention that he will relish a final meeting with bitter rivals Manchester United in the final and would love to give them a thrashing once again, like the 6-1 earlier in the season.
