HARD EFFORT

The Belgian defender Vincent Kompany has nothing but praise for his teammates and his club regarding their season long performances which sees the side of Manuel Pellegrini at the top of the Premier League along with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Manchester City travelled to White Hart Lane as they faced off to play against Tottenham on what was the 24th match of the Premier League and Manuel Pellegrini’s men went right past their opposition by scoring 5 goals and securing all 3 points which might just be one of the main reasons on why Kompany is so optimistic and proud of what Manchester City can and will accomplish in the near future.

“I’m so happy with the win and the way we played,” the club’s captain told BT Sport following the game. It was the way we played, it’s not just the result – we enjoyed it. It’s a great time to be part of Man City’’.

Even though City just ran through Tottenham and came out with a convincing victory, it still was a bittersweet triumph as the Argentine Sergio Aguero was removed from the match after picking up an injury and Kompany spoke about the situation.

“It’s bad news to lose Sergio but we’ll have to see. I don’t know how bad it is. There’s good news though, Jovetic stepped up and scored today and he looked like the player we thought he was when we got him with this performance. We are the players at the moment who have been chosen to do it. If it’s not us then it will be other players. This club definitely has a target to win every competition possible. I think we have been one of the best teams to watch in the Premier League so far.”

READY FOR 2014

Manchester City’s captain Vicent Kompany has warned fans to get ready for what the 2014 will bring as they will be going all out not only trying to secure the Premier League but every other trophy out there.

The team of Manuel Pellegrini had to dig deep and find a way out of their matches against Liverpool and Crystal Palace with a win, and indeed they did manage to do that.

Manchester City defeated Liverpool 2-1 and Crystal Palace fell victim to a lonely goal from the Bosnian Edin Dzeko as City won 1-0. Kompany downplayed what it meant to defeat Liverpool, as the entire team of Manchester City celebrated the conclusion of the match like if they had won the Premier League.

“It’s a massive win,” said the Belgian. “I don’t know if you saw but I think most of the players were as happy with this win as they were with the one against Liverpool. It’s a tricky period, a turnaround in 48 hours. It’s six points in 48 hours, which is a great boost.”

Kompany later continued stating that his team finished the 1st half of the season in a very positive way as they in the top 3 spots of the Premier League and if the year of 2014 continues rolling on as it started, then this season will be one to remember.

“Being top is important but in a way it doesn’t mean too much yet,” he said. “We’ve put ourselves in a nice position for the second half of the season.Ultimately it feels like we’ve played so many games but we have arrived in January and there’s actually still not much between all the teams.

“It’s been an intense first half of the season and if the second half is as intense and as good, then we’ll be looking at an incredible season.”

Manchester City won the Premier League title back in the season of 2011-2012 and are making a statement as they are attempting to win it once more.

KOMPANY RUKED OUT

Vincent Kompany might not be available for his club Manchester City for their match against the Czech club Viktoria Plzen. That’s a Champions League match and will take place towards the end of this month.

Kompany was expected to recover from his thigh injury till that time, but, yesterday, the team doctor of the Belgian national football team made a statement that Kompany might need an extra week to get back to 100% fitness. That means the City management might have to wait till December to get the skipper back.

Kompany had injured himself in the first week of October while playing in a Premier League game against Everton. It didn’t seem to be a major injury at that point of time and he was expected to be back in action in about 20 days or so, but, his recovery didn’t go as smoothly as expected.

This is not the first time that Kompany has suffered a muscle injury. He has suffered a lot of such injuries in the last 1 year or so and as a result, he has missed a lot of matches in the recent past.

Talking to the reporters yesterday about Kompany’s injury, the team doctor of the Belgian team said, “Vincent will need extra few days to recover completely. We are trying our best to get him fit as quickly as possible, but, these kinds of injuries take time to heal.”

Kompany has been a vital member of the Manchester City side in the last 5 years. He has won a lot of games for City with his solid defensive performances.

The 27 years old Belgian international has made more than 150 Premier League appearances for City so far and has scored 7 goals in those matches.

Kompany a target for Barcelona manager Martino

Barcelona could turn to Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany if they fail in their attempts to land Chelsea defender David Luiz or Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, according to reports from the Catalan press.

The aforementioned duo had seen their names linked with Barcelona throughout the summer with the Brazilian defender Luiz particularly keen to push through a move to Camp Nou after it became evident that new manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t particularly fancy him much. However, the asking price Chelsea have set for the player who they bought back in 2011 is something that will become a deciding factor with Barcelona unable to pay the whopping £ 40 million Chelsea are asking for after already shelling out £ 50 million to bring Neymar to the club.

New manager Gerardo Martino is keen on a new defender at the club and has earmarked the likes of Agger, Luiz as well as Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen for the role but according to a Catalan newspaper, the club will go for Vincent Kompany should their pursuit of Agger and Luiz end in failure.

Kompany has been a stand out performer for Manchester City during his time at the club and was a key figure during the club’s title winning season in 2012/13 and he will definitely not come cheap for the Catalan giants as well, who have already missed out on one of their primary defensive targets in Brazilian international Thiago Silva who has chosen to stay put at French club Paris Saint Germain.

The newspaper also reported that although Luiz is set to take a pay cut to push through the move, his transfer fee will be an issue and thus, Vincent Kompany becomes a more logical option for the Camp Nou side as they look to bolster their defensive options this season.

KOMPANY PLAYS ON

Vincent Kompany showed great courage while playing for his national team Belgium in the World Cup Qualifying match against Serbia on Saturday. He had a nasty collision with the Serbian goalie Vladimir Stojkovic in the 34th minute of the match. Kompany’s nose got fractured during that collision.

Kompany was in a lot of pain on the ground. The team doctors immediately came for assistance and took him out. But, after remaining out for a few minutes, Kompany came back and remained on the field for the rest of the match.

This was a great display of dedication by the Belgian captain. Not many players would have opted to continue after such a severe injury, but, Kompany not only continued, he guided his team to a very important win.

Belgium won the match by 2-1. The goal scorers for them were Kevin De Bruyne and Marouane Fellaini.

After the completion of the match, Kompany went to the hospital where he was checked thoroughly and then, treated accordingly. The centre-back spent the night in the hospital and then, took the flight to Manchester next morning to be with his family.

The doctors who treated Kompany at the hospital later on told the reporters that the medical staff of the Belgian football team shouldn’t have allowed Kompany to continue after such a severe blow as it could have led to his death as well.
However, the team doctor of the Belgian team, Van Crombrugge, didn’t seem to agree with that. He said, “I don’t think it was a foolish decision. I knew that his nose had been fractured, but, his pupils were alright. We then examined him neurologically and let him continue.”

Kompany is expected to get fit before the start of the next Premier League season.

KOMPANY IS IMPORTANT

The Belgian defender Vincent Kompany has proven to be one of the important players for the national team and Manchester City over the last few years. The Italian Roberto Mancini has certainly missed his presence in the Manchester City team over the last few months because the defender has not played because of injury problems since January.

However, he could be set for return to first-team action from this weekend onwards. The defender is expected to make his return in the match against Macedonia. Belgium will be taking on Macedonia in this crucial World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday night.

Belgium have so far been one of the standout performers in this group, but they need to be wary of the threat from Croatia. The Croatians will be playing against Wales, and they are expected to get all three points from this encounter. Hence, Belgian need to win against Macedonia in order to maintain their position at the top of the group going into the final few rounds of qualifying. Belgium are ahead of Croatia in the group A only on goal difference. The return of Kompany will be a major boost for the national team manager. The defender has said that it has been a frustrating spell on the sidelines, but he is happy to be back.

“I feel great. I’ve put in some hard work over the last eight weeks and I’m very happy to be back in the team. It’s been frustrating but it is something that you have to deal with. I’ve been through things a lot worse than this,” said Vincent Kompany ahead of the match with Macedonia. The return of the defender Kompany will also be crucial to Manchester city in the remaining eight matches of the Premier league, as they trail the leaders Manchester United by 15 points.

NO NEED TO PANIC

The captain of Manchester City, Vincent Kompany, has said that his team doesn’t need to panic because of the seven-point lead that Manchester United has at the moment.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United has played 21 Premier League matches each. United has managed to win 17 matches, while, City has won only 13 of them. United is at the top of the points table with 52 points, while, City currently has 45 points.

When asked about City’s position in the points table, Kompany said, “We are not too much worried about it. We had 8 points less than United with only 6 matches still to be played in the last season, but, we overtook United from that stage and won the league.”

“Two years back, had we been behind by 7 points, we would have thought that it would be an uphill task for us to recover, but, since we did it once, we know that we can do it again. So, there is no need to panic.”

“Anything can still happen. We have seen teams losing 3-4 matches in a row. So, we need to be patient and try to win as many games as possible. We should focus on things which are in our control. Obviously, the performance of the other teams is not in our control. So, we shouldn’t think too much about that. We should try to be consistent and grab as many points as possible.”

“We have 7 points less than United, this doesn’t mean that we have performed badly. We have lost only a couple of games so far in the league. Actually, United has been playing some high quality football right from the start of the season and if they continue performing like this, then, it will get a bit difficult for us to overtake them.”

Aguero claims that City were his second choice

Following the club’s cruel last minute defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, the last thing Manchester City supporters wanted to hear was negative comments from the Blues’ star striker. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what has happened, with Sergio Aguero rubbing more salt into the wounds after claiming he had “no choice” to join City after Real Madrid decided to not pursue him.

Aguero joined City in a deal worth £38m last summer and enjoyed a superb debut campaign in English football, managing twenty three goals as the Blues won their historic title. However, he has been out of action for much of this season after sustaining a knee injury in the opening game against Southampton. The injury meant that he was not given a starting place in Tuesday’s game against Real Madrid, as he was instead named amongst the substitutes.
Prior to his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, there were several rumours that suggested that Aguero could be bound for the Bernabeu. As reporters quizzed him about this after the Champions League clash, Aguero revealed in no uncertain terms that Madrid was his preferred destination. He said, “If Madrid had wanted me, I would be playing here. I had no choice but to sign with Manchester City.”

However, it appears as though the striker was hit with some realisation about what he had said, after quickly posting a more comforting update on his Twitter account following the comments. He wrote, “Just to make it clear – I’m very happy to be in @MCFC. It’s the best decision I could have taken. I feel comfortable and appreciated in @MCFC – it’s a project I feel involved in. We want more titles and we’ll get them!”

Following the loss, it remains to be seen what team Roberto Mancini will opt to start with for Sunday’s game against Arsenal. While Aguero is now fit enough to be selected, the fact that Edin Dzeko came off the bench to grab a goal will have done his selection chances no harm whatsoever.

KOMPANY HAILS RONALDO

The skipper of Manchester City, Vincent Kompany, has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for his last minute goal against City in the Champions League match which was played on Tuesday. That goal took Madrid to a dramatic victory over City at Santiago Bernabeu.

Kompany was pretty close to Ronaldo when the great Portuguese smashed that goal. Many experts think that Kompany could have made a clearance, but, the City skipper doesn’t think so. As per Kompany, he had absolutely no chance of clearing that shot. That was wonderfully hit. No player other than Ronaldo could have scored a goal from that position. But, Ronaldo is just superb. He converts even half chances into goals and that’s a rare quality. His technique is a bit different from the others and his concentration level is fantastic.

The City captain backed the goalkeeper Hart who is also being criticized for that 90th minute goal. As per Kompany, it is not fair to criticize the goal keeper. Any goalkeeper in the world would have struggled to stop that shot. Ronaldo had absolutely nailed that.

According to Kompany, although the City team lost the match, but, there were some positives to take out from the match. The team managed to get ahead twice in the match. Benzema scored a goal after quite a while and Marcelo also looked good in the match.

On being asked about the fitness of Samir Nasri, who left the ground in the first half due to hamstring injury, Kompany said that the injury didn’t look that severe, but, he needs to rest for a few days to get rid of that strain. Probably, he would miss a match or two. Manchester City will take on the Gunners in its next match on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

KOMPANY SIGNS EXTENSION

Manchester City has extended the contract of its captain, Vincent Kompany, for another six years. The extension of Kompany’s contract has been announced by the club on 26th July. After the extension of the contract, Kompany thanked the manager and the owners for trusting his abilities and extending his contract. He said that playing for Manchester City has been an amazing experience.

Kompany joined Manchester city 4 years ago in 2008. He was signed on a contract of four years. But, in his very first season for Manchester City, Kompany performed pretty well. After just one season, his contract was extended for the next five years. Kompany continued giving impressive performances for City. After 2010-11 season, Roberto Mancini had said that Kompany is one of the best defenders in the world at the moment. Under the captaincy of Kompany, Manchester City won the Premier League title for the first time last season.

Kompany said that winning the premier League title was not easy for them. He has given a lot of credit to the manager, Roberto Mancini, for that win. As per Kompany, Mancini is a fine manager and since his appointment as the manager of Manchester City, the team has improved considerably. Kompany said that the premier League victory was a collaborative effort of the whole team. Each and every member played his part.

After the Premier League victory of the club last season, Kompany has been praised a lot due to his fantastic leadership qualities. But, Kompany doesn’t think that his captaincy played a key role in the Premier League victory. He said that a good team makes a captain look good. The team won because the players performed brilliantly and not because of his captaincy. He also said that the players have to show the same kind of intensity on the field in the upcoming season as well.
