KOMPANY BELIEVES

Manchester city captain Vincent Kompany has acknowledged that the club has the ability to win a lot of titles in the near future provided they build on the elite success – in the form of the Premier league title – they achieved last season properly.

Manchester City managed to lift the first division title for the first time in 44 years after winning the Premier league title just ahead of Manchester United. It completed the ambitions of the owners, who took over the club in 2008, and have spent more than £ 1 billion in rejuvenating the squad and the staff. Vincent Kompany has risen to prominence in recent years after he was given the captain’s armband.

He was extremely influential in helping Manchester City win the title last season, while the club are expected to mainly challenge for the Champions League this time around. Even though Vincent Kompany reckons that winning the Champions League is not an easy task, the club should be able to achieve this mission if they build on the success they achieved last season properly. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is not expected to make vast changes to the playing squad this time around, but there will be quality addition to the form of Robin van Persie.

“There’s so much more great stuff ahead of us, and that’s what interests me. If you lay down the right foundations, you can be successful for a long time and that’s the aim. I’ve been to far too many places to remember this summer, but the main thing is that everywhere I’ve been, everyone had apparently seen the game or heard about that last day of the season. I’m convinced this time we’re going to have a strong performance. Pre-season is massive,” said Vincent Kompany ahead of the new season.
